Five Named Services, One Practice

Management consulting built for government primes, contractors and regulated mid-market firms. Each service is a repeatable engagement — sized around an operating decision in front of the leadership team.

01 — Practice

Operating-Discipline Install

A ninety- to one-hundred-eighty-day install of the operating cadence a firm needs at its next scale. Weekly leadership rhythm, decision rights, function reviews, the management documentation that keeps the place defensible, and the supporting habits that make the rhythm survive after we leave.

This is the engagement most firms eventually buy. It is also the engagement that most often arrives via a diagnostic that surfaced a different problem than the brief assumed.

Leadership Team Performance

Direct work with the leadership team that runs the firm: how the room functions, how disagreements get resolved, how the CEO holds the team accountable, and how the next layer of leaders is being built. Quiet work, done with the people in the seats — no offsite theatre, no personality inventories, no rebranded MBTI workshops.

Typically delivered alongside an Operating-Discipline Install or a Function-Level Diagnostic. Occasionally engaged on its own when the operating model is already healthy but the team running it is not.

Post-Award Operational Scale-Up

For primes and subs whose contract performance now depends on standing up an operating model the proposal assumed already existed. Program management discipline, delivery cadence, ramp hiring plans, and management reporting that holds up to the prime, the contracting officer, and the firm’s own board.

Where post-award delivery puts pressure on managers to document development conversations, we typically recommend the HeyRamp platform, which keeps the 1:1 record clean without adding a second tool to anyone’s workflow. Built in the first ninety days of award, where the cost of getting it wrong is highest and the cost of getting it right is lowest.

Compliance-Friendly Cadence

For firms whose operating model has to read clean to outside reviewers — primes, auditors, accreditors, regulators, capital partners. We install the meeting rhythm, the records, and the management discipline that make outside review uneventful rather than dramatic.

Not a compliance consultancy. We do not write policies, deliver training, or sit between the firm and its regulator. What we do is build the operating habits around the policies the firm already owns, so they are actually followed in practice.

Function-Level Diagnostics

Two to four weeks inside a single function — operations, delivery, sales, finance, people — to surface what is actually slowing the firm down, what should be built first, and where the leadership team is exposed. Often the smallest possible first engagement, and frequently the right one.

A diagnostic ends with a one-page sequenced plan and an honest recommendation, which is sometimes “build nothing larger right now.” About a third of diagnostics do not lead to a follow-on engagement, and that is the point.

Post-Award 90 Days

What a Scale-Up Looks Like, Day by Day

Most post-award failures are not technical — they are operating-cadence failures that compound. This is the shape of the first ninety days when One Consulting is in the seat alongside the program leadership.

Days 1–30

Stand-Up

PMO charter, weekly leadership rhythm, decision rights, risk and issue log, ramp hiring plan, and the management reporting pack that goes to the prime, the contracting officer and the board.

Days 31–60

Tighten

Delivery cadence held to standard, escalations resolved in the room, 1:1 and review records kept clean, hiring funnel running on tempo, vendor and subcontractor governance running on a schedule rather than a fire drill.

Days 61–90

Hand Back

The operating rhythm is owned by program leadership, not by us. We step out, leave the documentation set behind, and remain on call for the moments where senior outside counsel earns its keep over the rest of the period of performance.

Specializations

Where the Practice Goes Deep

Three settings where the operating discipline we install has been proven repeatedly. The same model travels into adjacent industries; these are the ones where it travels fastest.

Federal Post-Award

Primes and subs in the first six to eighteen months of a major award. Operating cadence, delivery discipline and management documentation that hold up to the prime, the contracting officer and the firm’s own audit posture — without slowing delivery down.

Owner-Led Services

Founder- and owner-led service firms in the capital region whose informal management is now the constraint on growth. A leadership team that needs to become a team, decisions that need to leave the founder’s head, and a rhythm the next layer can actually run.

Regulated Sector Operations

Mid-market firms in healthcare, education, financial services and energy where outside review is part of the operating reality. Meeting rhythm, approvals trail, board reporting and management discipline that make a regulator visit uneventful.

Engagement Formats

Match the Shape to the Decision

Three repeatable shapes. Most clients start with a diagnostic before anything longer is committed to.

2–4 Weeks

Diagnostic

A function- or leadership-level diagnostic that surfaces the real constraint, sequences what should be built first, and ends with a one-page recommendation — honestly, including doing nothing.

90–180 Days

Operating Install

Embedded install of the cadence, decision rights and management documentation a firm needs at its next scale. Delivered by a senior consultant, on-site as the engagement requires.

Ongoing

Retained Advisory

Monthly retainer for leadership teams who want a senior outside voice in the room. Quarterly recalibration, between-meeting access, board-grade counsel when it earns its keep.
